? Michael Miller and Brian MacLean have been appointed chief operating officers of The St Paul Travelers Companies. These are newly-created positions. Miller assumes responsibility for the speciality business and the company's regional executive organisation. MacLean assumes responsibility for the commercial business, including the company's run-off businesses, along with his previous claims responsibilities.

Joseph Lacher, chief executive of the group's personal lines business, has been appointed executive vice-president of the company. He will continue to head the personal lines business.

Douglas Elliot, who most recently served as chief executive of commercial and personal lines, is leaving St Paul Travelers to pursue other career opportunities.
