Chinese drywall linked with damaging effects

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has found a strong association between Chinese drywalls, hydrogen sulphide levels in homes, and corrosion of metal within homes, according to a report published Monday.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has found a strong association between Chinese drywalls, hydrogen sulphide levels in homes, and corrosion of metal within homes, according to a report published Monday.
More than 40 “complaint” homes in five states were compared with 10 “non-complaint” homes built around the same time and in the same area as the complaint homes. According to the findings, hydrogen sulphide gas resulted in copper and silver sulphide corrosion in the complaint homes. Other factors, including air exchange rates, formaldehyde and other air contaminants contributed to the reported problems.
