Despite the economic slowdown the Latin American insurance market held steadfast in 2008 and showed continued signs of strength in 2009, according to a Fundación Mapfre report.

Nineteen Latin American countries were analysed in the in the VIII Latin American insurance market report. In 2008, the market saw an 11% rise in premium volumes compared to the preceding year, reaching Eu69.3bn ($96.6bn).
