The USGS released a preliminary epicentre location at 35.846S 72.719W, around 60 miles (100 km) north northwest of Chillan, Chile, 65 miles (105 km) west southwest of Talca, Chile and 200 miles (325 km) southwest of Santiago, Chile with a fixed focal depth of 21.7 miles (35 km).
