2011 results show “underlying strength”: Mapfre

The Spanish firm has boasted that its financial results for 2011 reflect a robust state of affairs at the reinsurer.

Mapfre executives have said that the firm’s full 2011 results show resilience, in spite of substantial catastrophe losses.

The re/insurer reported a total impact of €138.9m from last year’s catastrophes, but it said that this was mitigated by growth in Spain and Latin America.

The group saw premiums rise by 15.5% to €19.6bn in 2011 from a 2010 figure of just under €17bn in 2010.
