Hurricane Earl

Posting Date: 06 September 2010

Location: Atlantic Ocean

Peril: Windstorm

Earl passed further offshore, and was weaker than had been anticipated by the NHC forecasts, as it passed nearly 100 miles offshore Nantucket Island and headed to Nova Scotia over the weekend. Thus winds experienced onshore were at the lower end of tropical storm strength, and no damage is being reported. Given Earl’s very limited impact on shore, RMS will not be issuing any updated modelling parameters or accumulation files for this event. Earl had weakened to Tropical Storm status on Friday, 3 September, at 11pm EDT, as it passed offshore Cape Cod - and continued to weaken and accelerate before crossing Nova Scotia, making landfall near Western Head, and then dissipating rapidly as it crossed King Edward Island. The final NHC advisory on Earl was issued at 11pm EDT on Saturday, 4 September 2010.
