QBE Europe won best insurance company team overall and best insurance company team underwriting casualty, while Starr Underwriting Agents won best insurance company team underwriting marine and best insurance underwriting company team underwriting aviation. There was personal glory for Amlin CEO Charles Phillips, who scooped the insurance company CEO of the year.

The reinsurance company team categories were split between three firms – XL Re, Scor and Transatlantic Re. XL Re won best reinsurance company team for casualty and aviation. Scor won best reinsurance company team for motor and facultative. Transatlantic Re won best reinsurance company of the year, while its CEO, Paul Bonny, won reinsurance company of the year.

In the insurance broking categories RK Harrison and Aon did the best. RK Harrison scooped the marine and overall categories, while Aon won the property and aviation categories.

Aon's reinsurance broking arm, Aon Benfield, also had a successful night scooping six team awards, while its international CEO Dominic Christian won reinsurance broking CEO of the year.

In the individual categories Ferma’s Peter Den Dekker won corporate risk manager of the Year, Catlin’s Jodie Arkell won young underwriter of the year, Aon Benfield’s Simon Coles won young broker of the year and Travelers’ Barnabas Hurst-Bannister won industry personality of the year. The evening concluded with the award for lifetime achievement, which went to Montpelier Re’s Anthony Taylor.

The Reactions London Market Awards were decided through an exhaustive process. In the first step, Reactions extensively surveyed through an online poll and personal interviews risk managers, insurers, reinsurers and brokers to find out who they believe are the best teams and firms operating in the London market in a number of categories.

The companies that received votes were then contacted by Reactions and asked to complete a standard entry form. The form asked firms to explain why they believe they are best in the category.

Lastly, an independent panel of judges from the London market along with Adrian Ladbury, Reactions’ European editor, and Richard Crump, Reactions’ deputy editor, were locked in a room for a day, and weren’t allowed out until the winners were decided.

The judges debated each firm's merits, taking the number of reader votes and the company's entry form into account. After debate, the panel decided on a winner for each category, as well as two other firms to be short-listed. The panel also picked out the winners of the individual awards.

The judging panel consisted of: Habib Kattan of Kiln Group, Jonathan Parry of QBE Re Europe, Henry Keeling of Guy Carpenter, John Muir of Willis, Dominic Christian of Aon Benfield International, Mark Adams of Deloitte LLP, And Clive O’ Connell of Barlow Lyde & Gilbert.

The underwriting panellists were not present for discussions for the underwriting categories and the broking panellists were not present for discussion for the broking categories
